Work from home business ideas for the creative person

Work from home business ideas
I love working from home. I have worked very hard and for a very long time to have this small luxury, I wish everyone could do it! So, I have compiled a small list of at-home business ideas for the creative mind.

Arts Studio

If you have a knack for painting and drawing, this at-home business is a perfect fit. More than ever, the love of art is on the rise. People nowadays are willing to spend good money on the art they believe to be unique and stunning. Because of this, going into this type of home business is a great option.

Jewelry Making

Jewellers use different materials to make their products, such as ceramics and iron. If you love fashion, especially the accessories that go along with fashion, then you might want to consider becoming a jeweller. Being creative in this field is how you achieve success.

Tie-Dye Making

The tie-dye business has been around for a long time. The good news is that it’s still a popular at-home business that people go into – because retro is in! If you are a tie-dye lover or even just a general art lover, this business may be something you should consider. The first thing you should know is that you have to be skilled in this trade of business. However, if you don’t know much about this trade, you can always learn and create some unique products.

Card & Stationery Making

If you love giving gifts, then this type of business might be something you really enjoy doing. You can get started quickly without spending a lot of money upfront. This may be one of the easiest businesses to start up at home.

Wood Work

If you are good at carving wood or building objects using wood, this is a great option for a home business for you. The industry is very profitable and there are a lot of things you can do with wood. Some things you may consider making are beautiful rustic signs with inspirational quotes.

Basket Weaving

I used to tease my husband about this. It seemed that when he was playing video games, they were games of basket weaving. ( he didn’t like that very much) BUT if you want to start a craft business, this may be a good place to start. This is simply because a lot of people are on the lookout for homemade decorations for their homes, making this type of business very profitable.

Knitting

You can do a lot with knitting. There are options like making scarves, toques, mittens, cardigans, sweaters, and so much more. There is not a large start-up cost in this type of business so if you’re on a limited budget, then this might be a good option for you to consider. Especially during the winter months in the Great White North, we call Canada.

Candle Making

I’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit, when I was a teen, the first business I wanted to create was a custom candle company.  I even had a name and a logo – but that was as far as I was able to go. Sadly, my candle company, “Wicked”, never made it past my daydreams.

Candles have been in use for over 2,000 years and are still in high demand. They are used all over the world for religious reasons or in homes for decoration. You’ll have a very successful business if you make scented candles and different shapes, as these types of candles are very popular.

These are all great options you can consider for your new home business. Don’t be scared to try new things. There aren’t any rules to craft making, but when selling is sure to sell products you have fun doing and are confident in creating. They can earn you a great deal of money and provide you with something to do with any extra time on your hands.

Inspiring Greatness: Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez – Another amazing woman changing our world I am excited to add to the Inspiring Greatness: Women who are changing the world! collection.

Selena Gomez is the first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram! She was the most followed Instagram user in the WORLD, until October 2018.

Below read a snippet on how she speaks on strength and vulnerability in Time Magazine’s FIRSTS Women Who Are Changing The World.

I think it’s really hard to be a kid now, especially with social media. I can’t imagine what it would be like to grow up with that. It’s already difficult to get up every day and just feel good about yourself without seeing the highlights of everyone else’s life. That’s why I like being vulnerable with my fans on social media. I like that they’ve seen my mistakes. I try to use that as a way to connect with them. That’s all I can do. I hope that they know that strength doesn’t mean that you have to put on a facade. Strength is being vulnerable.

How to turn a dream into a workable plan.

How to turn a dream into a workable plan
As a business mentor, it can be difficult to watch the lack of progress of so many promising entrepreneurs. They’ve dreamed for so long about creating a solid, sustainable business, and yet, all they do is dream.

You know the people I’m talking about. They attend conferences, sign up for free webinars, buy paid training, and sometimes even work with a coach or two. And yet week after week, month after month, year after year, they fail to make any progress toward their dreams.

Are they just lazy? No. It’s something worse. They don’t know how to move from a dream to a plan and they’re stuck.

It is my mission to get every single woman who is “stuck” in that phase of their business moving toward their dreams and accomplishing their goals. So, if this is where you are, here are a few tips that may help give you that gentle nudge.

Starting With the Long-Term

If you’ve ever been on a job interview and were asked, “Where do you want to be five years from now,” you might have thought it an odd question. But as a business owner, that might just be the most important consideration you can have.

Without knowing where you’re headed in the long term, it’s impossible to create a map to get there. You need to know what your destination is, so that every day, week, month, and year you can check your progress to be sure you’re still headed in the right direction.

How to turn a dream into a workable plan

Create Milestones

Once you know your ultimate destination, you can draft a plan for getting there, and create the interim goals that will help you stay on track.

For example, if in five years you want to be free to travel for 8 weeks every year, then you need to have a few pieces in place before that can happen:

  • Enough income to cover travel costs
  • Passive income to sustain your business while you’re not working
  • A staff who can manage the business while you’re away

With this list, you can then work backwards from your five-year goal, and create milestones along the way. If you know you’ll need to earn $150,000 annually in order to fund your travel plans, and right now you’re earning $60,000, then reasonable milestones might look like this:

  • Year 1: $70,000
  • Year 2: $85,000
  • Year 3: $105,000
  • Year 4: $125,000
  • Year 5: $150,000

With these milestones in place, it’s much easier to figure out exactly what you need to do to achieve them, by setting monthly, weekly, and daily goals.

Create Small Goals

If you have ever spoken to me, or read any of my articles on goal setting, this is given…If you say to someone, you need to move from $60,000 to $150,000 in five years, that’s a pretty overwhelming task. After all, it’s a $90,000 increase and most people will look at that and immediately dismiss it as impossible.

But when you break it down as I have above, and then again into smaller steps, it suddenly doesn’t look so daunting.

In the first year of the plan we have outlined here, your income needs to increase only by $10,000. That’s less than $1000 per month! Surely that’s easy enough to accomplish!
You can further break that down by week: $1000 per month is just $250 per week. If you sell just one more service package, big-ticket item,  or five more of a $50 training program, you’ve already reached your milestone.

That might mean sending one more email to your list, or investing an additional $20 per month in Facebook ads, or perhaps reaching out to one more JV partner. The point is, reaching this much smaller goal is far easier than thinking about that five-year plan.

So what’s your big dream? How can you deconstruct it into achievable milestones, workable goals, and finally, daily and weekly tasks? Share in the comments below!

If you can do this (and you definitely can) then you can achieve anything in business and in life.

How goal setting can help in the pursuit of happiness.

the pursuit of happiness
In your pursuit of happiness, you’ve likely focused on all of the obvious things – de-stressing and doing the things you enjoy. However, did you know that setting goals can also contribute to your happiness?

It doesn’t matter what type of goals you’re setting yourself, just the process of goal setting itself has its benefits. Keep reading to discover why goal setting can help in your pursuit of happiness.

Writing Down Goals Helps you Visualize a Better Future

One of the reasons goal setting can help to boost happiness is because it forces you to think of your future in a positive way. Visualizing what you want and how your perfect life looks, will automatically make you feel happier.

It’s short-term happiness, but it does help to get you started in terms of thinking more positively. If you’re stuck in a rut for example, and you’re creating goals to help you out of it, you’re going to find it great to visualize how your life is going to be once you’ve overcome your current situation.

Bullet Journal written about goals your future depends on what you do today the pursuit of happiness

They Help You See the Progress You’re Making

Of course, it’s not just the setting of the goals which you’ll be focusing on. You’ll also be working towards them, ticking your short-term goals off the list as you go along. This allows you to see consistent progress.

As you see that you’re getting nearer to your goals, it can have a wonderful effect on your happiness. Often, the reason we give in to negative thinking is that we don’t see anything changing. With goal setting, you get to actually see how things are changing and celebrate your progress.

Why it’s Important to Set Goals to Help Others

While personal goals are no doubt important, it’s also important to set goals to help other people. Setting a goal to make somebody smile that day, for example, will really help to boost how you feel.

Studies have been carried out over the years, which have shown those who set goals to help others, are generally happier than those focusing solely on personal goals. So, don’t forget to focus on making others happy too.

Overall, goal setting can really help in the pursuit of happiness. It keeps you focused and helps you actually achieve the things you want in life. Whether it’s relationship goals, financial goals or career goals – they’ll all help you to become a happier, more successful person.

I would also like to mention that a little TPOH goes a LONG way on a long day, so – why not hit play and listen to their album below, while checking out these goal setting tips.

10 Tips for Running a Creative Business.

10 Tips for running a creative business.
Creative business owners often have the same challenge. That challenge is how to be creative and successful. This isn’t always easy to achieve, so I’ve put together these ten tips to help you in your venture.

10 tips for creative business owners written on a white background with a photo of a camera and coffee 10 Tips for running a creative business

Focus on one area of expertise.

Put your focus into one area and become good at it. If you focus on what you’re good at as opposed to doing what people want, you’ll notice you have a greater chance of success. This is because you specialize in one area, allowing you to offer more value in your specific area of work.

Plan where you want your business to go.

If you have a good vision of what you want, this will be very helpful. You can always change your plan as things in life change, but having your plan written down will keep you focused on your goals.

Do different things.

When you change things up a little bit, people are bound to notice and pay attention to you. Realize that if you only offer the same things as everyone else around you, you won’t stand out in the crowd of businesses. Taking risks gets you noticed.

Pay attention to the numbers.

You may work in a more creative field but that doesn’t mean you can forget about numbers. You have to ensure that you have a regular cash flow and without an organized way to go through all of the numbers, you’ll never know how successful you are.

Share your ideas to revolutionize.

Talking to others is the key to a successful business. Having a great diversity of ideas can help you to adopt an innovative way of doing things for your business. Collaboration helps you to succeed in this world.10 Tips for running a creative business. 10 tips for creative business owners written on a white background with a photo of a camera and coffee

Have proper protection of your ideas.

You don’t want to ever run into the issue of someone stealing your ideas. Be sure to be able to defend your ideas if you ever do run into this unfortunate issue. Your ideas are the essence of what you and your business are, so ensure that you know how to protect yourself including use of trademarks and/or copyrights as needed.

Take a digital approach to your business.

Engage with your customers, employees, and suppliers. Learn how to use different social media platforms to help promote your business. This will help you to extend the boundaries of your business and how to appeal to people to support you and your business.

Don’t lose hope.

People always make mistakes but it’s important that you move away from them and learn from them. You need to be determined to run a business of your own so don’t give up easily.

Always strive to improve.

Continuous improvements help to make a business succeed. This includes looking back at things that went wrong and making them better.

Have fun.

You’re supposed to have fun while running a creative business. Having fun makes work enjoyable, even the more routine tasks that form part of any business.

It’s not easy running your own creative business but when following these tips, hopefully, it can help your business run a little bit easier.

Master the Art of Productivity

Master the Art of Productivity
Master the Art of Productivity

Productivity is defined as “the effectiveness of productive effort, especially in industry, as measured in terms of the rate of output per unit of input.”

Essentially, it is a measurement of efficiency.

For some people, it’s simpler to view productivity in the currency of time. There are only 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, and 60 seconds in a minute. If you live for 60 years, you will have lived 525,600 minutes.

While you can lose and gain money, esteem, friends, possessions and more, the one commodity you can never get back is time. Improving productivity in your profession helps you get more accomplished in less time, allowing you more time to go about enjoying the 525,600 minutes you have.

Successful Woman holding hour glass and the words productivity is about doing the right things at the right time to achieve maximum efficiency for your effort. Master the Art of Productivity

Productivity in business is not simply doing something for the sake of getting it done. It’s about doing the right things at the right time to achieve maximum efficiency for your effort. Believe it or not, efficiency is sometimes about doing nothing at all. Taking a break. Recharging your batteries. Mentally preparing for what comes next.

The real key to remember is that everyone has unique needs when it comes to maximizing efficiency for optimal productivity. If your goal is to accomplish more in less time, then you need to make the following seven steps the foundation of your workweek.

  • Know your productivity type.
  • Discover your peak energy time.
  • Get yourself a simple kitchen timer.
  • Make friends with your calendar.
  • Batch your tasks, theme your weeks.
  • Schedule your downtime.
  • Review, reconsider, rework.

Each step is essential for helping you learn to manage your time rather than being managed by the lengthy list of items on your to-do list. You know, those never-ending lists that just grow overnight. Doesn’t it seem like you cross off one item at a time but you add 3 more items in its place?

This kind of rat race makes it seem like you will never catch up and never have time to relax. But as you learn more about your personal productivity needs, you will find that you are not only able to improve the quantity of work you accomplish in your day, but also the quality of work you accomplish.

How does this happen?

You will learn how to make small tweaks to your work habits to improve your mood and your productivity. Sign up to get next months Business Bootcamp: Productivity & Time Management, where I will focus on learning to do certain tasks during the hours when you are most productive, focusing your attention in short bursts of time and scheduling vital downtime on your calendar so you have an opportunity to enhance creativity, boost energy, and get a greatly improved return on investment for your time.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Image
Happy New Year!
It’s a new year with a new vision!

It is that time again. Time to make New Year’s resolutions and start fresh. Everywhere you go you will be asked: “What are your New Year resolutions?” Why? Because that is just how it is. This year, my answer will be different than it has been in the past and I suggest you do the same. When asked what this year’s resolutions will be, I will have one simple answer:

No resolutions this year.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I made a New Year’s resolution that lasted longer than a couple of weeks, can you? This is why I say ditch the resolution and kickstart the year with something that will move your business forward.

Instead of yet another ill-fated resolution, articulate a vision. The good thing about having a vision, instead of a resolution, is they are broad and can evolve as you and your business grow. If you consider your vision with every action you take, you are more likely to move in that direction.

People are goal-driven and accomplished goals, big and small, keep the momentum going. So, create a vision and set the first goal to make it happen. Make it a SMART goal. SMART being specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-limited. These goals can only be achieved if specific actions have been taken to ensure it is accomplished within a timeline. They are easy to track and will be stepping stones to a broader destination, your vision.

So, write it down, create a vision board, yell it from the rooftops, whatever your method is – get started and create a vision. I would love to hear about it, so please share! We can accomplish goals and carry out our visions together.

Wishing you a new year rich with the blessings of love, joy, warmth, laughter, and success.
